All accepted abstracts will:
- Be presented as e-posters at WCA2026
- Be published in an e-supplement of Anesthesia & Analgesia, the official journal of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS)
- Have a chance to win Best Clinical Research Competition
- Have a chance to win Best Basic Science Research Competition
- Have a chance to win Best Track Abstracts Award
Abstract Competitions and Awards
Best Clinical Research Competition and Best Basic Science Research Competition
- For these two competitions, each track will nominate up to two abstracts in each category:
• Clinical Research
• Basic Science Research - The WCA Scientific Committee will select six finalists for each competition.
Finalists will:
• Present their abstract as an e-poster during the appropriate session, like all accepted abstracts
• In addition, deliver a short oral presentation and answer questions from a panel of judges at live sessions on Saturday, 18 April 2026 - Prizes are awarded based solely on the oral presentation and Q&A, not the e-poster.
- Finalists will be announced in February 2026 and will receive further instructions for their presentations.
- Prizes (for each competition):
• 1st Prize: USD $1,000
• 2nd Prize: USD $750
• 3rd Prize: USD $500 - All prize winners will receive free registration to WCA2028 in Vancouver.
- Prize winners will be announced immediately after the competition sessions.
Best Track Abstracts Award
- Each scientific track will select its best 3 abstracts.
- Winners will be announced in February 2026 and featured in the WCA2026 Programme.
- Presenters of winning abstracts will receive an official e-certificate.
